The Cross-Disciplinary Project (CDP) is led by M. Sauthier (UCCS) and R. Froidevaux (UMRtBioEcoAgro). It is one of the projects selected in the second wave in 2025. It brings together 10 laboratories (UCCS, BIOECOAGRO, PC2A, UMET, LGCgE, IEMN, UGSF, GEMTEX, INAF/LIAAN, LUMEN) for the period 2026-2030.

Lignin is one of the main components of biomass and is obtained as a by-product of the pulp and paper industry and second-generation biorefineries. Its recovery would clearly contribute to building a more sustainable economy based on carbon from plant resources, as an alternative to fossil fuel applications. The LILLEGNIN project aims to establish a complete value chain dedicated to lignin recovery at the Lille site. The project integrates complementary expertise such as the biology of plant raw materials, innovative lignin extraction and (bio)catalytic conversion, as well as various innovative recovery pathways in textiles, fire-retardant materials, biofuels, and electronics.

Role of PC2A: Responsible for WP5 “Lignin for sustainable fuels”;  Supervision of a thesis for Task 5.3 “Sustainable aviation fuels (SAFs)”;  Study of the combustion chemistry of lignin-derived SAFs. This study will be carried out by developing a predictive kinetic model of these fuels and measuring their auto-ignition times in a rapid compression machine, as well as the chemicals produced by their flames.
