Kotaro Tanaka, professure à l'université Ibaraki University et directeur du CRERC, Japan visitera le laboratoire PC2A le 14 Septembre 2026.

Il fera un séminaire, "Key technologies for carbon recycling energy ~Advanced low-energy CO₂ capture, fuel synthesis, and fuel utilization technologies".

Toward carbon neutrality by 2050, it is essential to integrate three complementary energy pathways: the use of electrical energy, the utilization of thermal energy derived from the combustion of carbon-free fuels such as hydrogen and ammonia, and the utilization of thermal energy from carbon-recycling fuels, including synthetic fuels and bio-fuels.

To support the realization of a carbon recycling society, Ibaraki University established the Carbon Recycling Energy Research Center (CRERC) in 2023 and initiated research activities covering the entire carbon recycling value chain, including CO₂ capture, fuel synthesis, and fuel utilization. While both CO₂ capture and fuel synthesis require significant energy input, our research aims to develop technologies that minimize energy consumption and improve overall process efficiency.

This presentation will introduce recent advances in low-energy CO₂ capture technologies based on the moisture swing adsorption process, which enables CO₂ separation with substantially reduced energy requirements. In addition, recent developments in highly selective catalysts for fuel synthesis from CO₂ and hydrogen will be discussed. Furthermore, the presentation will highlight our latest fuel utilization research on the ignition characteristics of furan-based fuels using a rapid compression machine and NPAH formation using a flow reactor.
